Sediba Hiking Trail

Memel, Free State Province

Closed for renovations

The green rolling hills, numerous picturesque mountain streams and weathered rock krans make the area around Memel interesting for the hiker. Sediba Hiking Trail has been well laid out to take full advantage of this beautiful area of the Eastern Free State. The two day trails are well constructed and well suited for the novice and hiker who is unsure of there fitness level. The accommodation is superb in the context of what hikers are normally used too and the kitchen facilities well above the average.

The Sediba Camp is beautifully laid out and really ideal for relaxation. The camp has a lounge with a kitchen area with fridge, stove, pots and pans and sink. The lounge has lovely hand made furniture with lounge chairs and tables.

The main trail is 10.5Km long and has an interesting variety of scenery to walk through. The dominant tree species is the Ou Hout.

The rocky terrain is negotiated with the help of several ladders and numerous bridges.

A lot of work has gone into the trail to make sure it is safe for hikers.

Along the trail there are some beautiful streams and rock pools to cool off in.

There are also some lovely waterfalls in the kloofs.

The second day of the trail is 6Km long and is a relatively easy walk easy. The trail also takes in all the different aspects of the environment and it is well worth taking it at a slow pace to savour the beauty of the area.

The Sediba Hiking Trail is well worth a visit and once you have visited it, it is sure to become a favourite. It is important to take your time with your walk, though, as the trails are not difficult and are relatively short but offer something very special that will be remembered for some time to come.
